This hideously ugly stamp was apparently designed by someone who had perhaps heard of, but never actually had seen, a bagpipe. The poor piper is left without even a suggestion of a chanter or drone, and is thus reduced to clutching his blowpipe while playing. (This clutching of blowpipes, by the way, is seen quite often in bad bagpipe art and sculpture; it can be taken as a sign of a completely clueless artist.) All of this is especially annoying because Malta has its own large, interesting and rarely seen bagpipe. See previous and next stamps. |
